As a young child Nicole had an insatiable desire to connect to animals, and all things wild. She was always found out in the forest and in the wild with her dogs, always looking for wild animals and often brought home a creature much to the dismay of her mother. As a young child Nicole was introduced to the movie "The Jungle Book", and Nicole Wild was born thereafter. She always had a strong desire to connect to animals, understand their minds and their unique needs, and how to better communicate with them.
Nicole was fascinated with the high intelligence of animals, and found parrots to be a unique match for the type of connection she was looking for. Parrots were highly bonded to their people, very intelligent, and seemed to crave something else besides just a captive breed life. Seeing that they needed more then just a domestic way of life, Nicole became passionate about giving them more a life that would mimic more the life they would have had in the wild. Deciding to do things differently Nicole wanted to keep her birds flighted, feeling this was an innate need in a bird and would result in better overall mental and physical health.
The high level of intelligence of parrots meant that they would do better with some type of training and life enrichment programs, one that would challenge their very smart minds preventing some of the challenging behaviour problems that often inflict captive parrots. Nicole became passionate about giving captive parrots a better life since they were already in captivity, and couldn't safely be returned to the wild. Her aim was to keep them flighted but to train them to fly safely. As well she wanted to give them access to enrichment in the forms of training and a lifestyle that allowed captive foraging, one where they would learn to work for their food treats, thus challenging their very intelligent minds and prevent the numerous behaviour issues that captive parrots often have. Allowing them to live socially in and around other birds, would also give them access to the benefits of social interaction, including; friendship, health benefits of a more natural communal lifestyle, and safety in flock mentality.
A connection to nature was also important to Nicole where captive parrots or other captive wild animals could safely still enjoy a life connected to nature by going on hikes/walks through the wild, trips to the beach, and much more. In order to do this all birds needed to be harness trained with positive reinforcement, so they could be safely secure but also able to enjoy the wild. Harness training can be quite a challenge but is very rewarding once complete.
Nicole's longer term goal is to connect her show to an organization or program in the Rainforest of South America/Africa that is working hard to preserve the beautiful lands that these majestic birds come from. As the show develops a portion of each show would be donated to this organization.
